VLCKit source mirror
Guidevi uses VLCKit 3.7.3 (MobileVLCKit, TVVLCKit) and the libVLC 3.0.23 ("Vetinari") it embeds, both licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 or later (LGPL-2.1+). We link VLCKit dynamically and do not modify it.
Source archives (published 2026-10-04)
| File | Contents | Corresponds to |
|---|---|---|
vlckit-319ed2c0-source.tar.xz | Complete source tree of VLCKit at commit 319ed2c0 | The VLCKit build used in MobileVLCKit-3.7.3-319ed2c0-79128878.tar.xz / TVVLCKit-3.7.3-319ed2c0-79128878.tar.xz (VideoLAN's official binaries, downloaded by Tools/bootstrap.sh) |
vlc-79128878-source.tar.xz | Complete source tree of libVLC/VLC at commit 79128878 (version 3.0.23 "Vetinari") | The libVLC embedded inside the same VLCKit binaries |
checksums.txt | SHA-256 of both archives above and of the uncompressed .tar inside each, plus the SHA-256 of the VideoLAN binary packages (which contain the .xcframeworks) they correspond to | Traceability between source and shipped binary |
We haven't changed VLCKit or libVLC, so there is no separate patch/diff to publish. The archives are published as .tar.xz: the tar content is identical to the archive VideoLAN's GitLab produces for those commits; only the compression was changed from gzip to xz to keep each file small. To check this, decompress with xz -d and compare the SHA-256 of the .tar with the value in checksums.txt (or download the same archive from VideoLAN, unpack the gzip and compare). If we ever do modify VLCKit, the changes will be published here too.
Why a mirror instead of just a link: VideoLAN's own repositories can move or be reorganized; LGPL-2.1 §6(d) allows "equivalent access" via a mirror we control, so we will keep our own copy here rather than relying only on the upstream link.
Full LGPL-2.1 text: shown in the app's own "Open Source Licenses" screen, and available at the FSF's official LGPL-2.1 page.
Third-party components inside VLCKit (FFmpeg/libavcodec, dav1d, libaom, libvpx, libopus, libass, libgcrypt, and others): see the component table in the app's "Open Source Licenses" screen, or VideoLAN's own legal page. The archives above contain the VLCKit and libVLC sources only. The third-party libraries that VLCKit's build system ("contribs", e.g. FFmpeg) compiles into the binaries are fetched from their upstream projects at build time and are not part of these archives; their corresponding source is covered by the written offer below.
Written offer (valid for three years, LGPL-2.1 §6(c))
We will provide the complete corresponding source for the VLCKit and libVLC revisions used in this app, at no charge beyond the cost of performing this offer. The archives above are already published on this page. For anything not included there (in particular the source of the third-party contrib libraries built into VLCKit, such as FFmpeg), or if the archives are ever unavailable, write to support@guidevi.com within three years of the release of the app version you have, and we will send you the same source on a physical medium or a working download link, at no more than the cost of distribution.
Because VLCKit is linked dynamically and unmodified, no relinking materials are legally required under LGPL-2.1 §6(b) — you can already replace the .framework inside the app bundle with a compatible build. As an extra courtesy, on request we can also provide the app's own build re-linked against a VLCKit of your choice (an unsigned, unencrypted archive), free of charge.
